One-Hundred-Fifth Collection

The city of York UK has some remarkable Roman buildings. After being neglected for a long time desperate repairs were required. The Corporation of York decided to replace it for what the were hoping would be the final time. The present bridge was begun in 1810 and took 11 years to complete. For its first few years it was a toll bridge, so as to recover some of the costs of the extensive work. Eventually the first vehicles were allow to cross the Ouse free of charge. Notably these were carrying equipment and timber used in the repair of the Minster, after the fire of 1829, started by the religious fanatic Jonathan Martin.

I almost walked right past it. Then a cluster of pink frangipani caught my attention. The kind of beauty that stops you mid-step. Lit from behind—soft petals, gold center, pure quiet.

No photo holds the scent. But it holds the pause. And that’s enough.

Kedleston Hall is a neo-classical manor house owned by the National Trust, and seat of the Curzon family, located in Kedleston, Derbyshire, approximately 4 miles north-west of Derby. The medieval village of Kedleston was moved in 1759 by Nathaniel Curzon to make way for the manor. All that remains of the original village is the 12th century All Saints Church, Kedleston.
