Venice. Every spring, the blooming of the giant wisteria arrives punctually, climbing the walls of the historic palazzo in Rio Terà dei Biri or del Parsemolo. But every year, it's a pleasant and fragrant surprise.

This place is the wall of the citadel of Khiva, a city in Uzbekistan isolated in the desert north of Samarkand. It was an important stop on the legendary Silk Road.
I captured a man alone, an image that could be a symbol of loneliness. When I looked at the image again, I realized the man had a mobile phone in his hand: he wasn’t alone after all; he was connected to the world. Our frames of reference need to be reconsidered!

Venice. If, while walking through its more secluded streets, less frequented by the tourist invasion (there are some, still few, but they are there), you feel like you're being watched, stop and look around. You might see a splendid cat guarding its territory.

Venice. On the bank of one of its canals (here the banks are called "fondamenta") in a quiet area, a young man plays his electric guitar, but without an amplifier. Indeed, from across the canal, you can't hear anything. This, too, is a show of respect for a city too often violated by barbaric hordes of tourists.

Darley Abbey is a villagelike suburb known for its 18th-century industrial heritage, including a complex of redbrick cotton mills on the river and neat rows of terraced houses built for the mill workers. Once part of a monastery, the rustic, stone-walled Abbey Inn dates to the 15th century. As well as meadows and a tea room, Darley Park has a walled garden containing one of the world’s largest hydrangea collections.

Kedlestone Hall - Kedleston is all about the power of art and design – and the art of power. Built in the 1760s to designs by the celebrated architect Robert Adam for Nathaniel Curzon, 1st Baron Scarsdale, the house was intended to evoke the grandeur of ancient Rome. In 1916 the house and estate were inherited by George Nathaniel Curzon, Marquess Curzon of Kedleston and Viceroy of India. Lord Curzon refurbished the ground floor and planned a museum with more than 1,000 objects from across Asia.
