自己紹介

Manuela Matos Monteiro is dedicated to photography since youth. She is photographer and also curator of several exhibitions and a Biennale of Photography in Portugal. She, with João Lafuente, is director of 3 galleries (since 2013), 4 spaces, MIRA Galleries: MIRA FORUM (photography), Espaço MIRA (contemporary art) and MIRA | artes performativas (performance and contemporary art). Have attended courses and workshops in the field of fine arts in general and photography in particular. She participated with their works in solo and group exhibitions. Her work has been recognized by awards achieved in several photo competitions as well as the publication of photographs in books and magazines.

This place is the wall of the citadel of Khiva, a city in Uzbekistan isolated in the desert north of Samarkand. It was an important stop on the legendary Silk Road. I captured a man alone, an image that could be a symbol of loneliness. When I looked at the image again, I realized the man had a mobile phone in his hand: he wasn’t alone after all; he was connected to the world. Our frames of reference need to be reconsidered!
